P1 and Pos Malaysia form strategic partnership

KUCHING: WiMAX broadband service provider Packet One Networks Malaysia Sdn Bhd (P1) has partnered up with national courier service Pos Malay­sia Bhd (Pos Malaysia) to enable bill payments for P1’s postpaid subscription and new account registrations as well as top-ups at almost 600 Pos Malaysia’s outlets in peninsular Malaysia.

WiMAX stands for worldwide inter-operability for microwave access.

In a statement, P1’s chief executive officer Michael Lai reiterated the company’s mission to provide broadband service for all.

“We’ve always believed that broadband should be a right and not a privilege, it should be a necessity and never a luxury. Pos Malaysia is a great partner in making P1 WiMAX accessible to as many Malaysians as possible through its extensive network of outlets. This extends our ability to serve our customers tremendously,” he said after the memorandum of understanding (MoU) ceremony with Pos Malaysia held at the Dayabumi Complex in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Lai also highlighted the MoU as part of P1’s service excellence charter.

“Our aim is to plant a smile on our customer’s face.”

As of last year, P1’s subscriber base was at 139,000 users.

For new registrations of P1 WiMAX postpaid packages, Pos Malaysia outlets now offer P1 WiMAX Home Lite, Plus-and-Pro, Office Premium and Standard packages. The packages are available with free device and at no contract, priced at RM59, RM89 and RM129 for speeds up to 600 kilobytes per second (eight gigabytes), 1.5 megabytes per second (15 gigabytes) and three megabytes per second (20 gigabytes), respectively.

As the nation’s premier physical communications and postal services provider, Pos Malaysia has the vast experience as well as its extensive network across the country with  over 700 retail outlets nationwide in addition to having an online transaction portal PosOnline that receives 600,000 hits annually.

Its group managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Syed Faisal Albar expressed the postal group’s enthusiasm towards its strategic collaboration with P1.

“Pos Malaysia is proud to be a part of the P1 WiMAX ‘Broadband for All’ revolution. We are pleased to offer these services to P1 customers and look forward to collaborate further with P1 in making Pos Malaysia a hub for a multitude of P1 transactions.”

Also in conjunction with the MoU signing, P1 introduced the country’s first WiMAX prepaid package P1 W1GGY Prepaid, with its starter pack priced at RM199 that included enhanced WiMAX USB modem with four gigabytes of data. Users can register for the package online at www.P1.com.my.

Top-ups for the prepaid package are available at RM20 for 500 megabytes and RM50 for two gigabytes worth of data, both of which can also be done at Pos Malaysia’s outlets.
