Its deputy vice-chancellor (student affairs and alumni) Associate Professor Mohd Fadzil Abdul Rahman who revealed this yesterday said the complex to be located near to the old campus here was estimated to cost RM12 million.

Mohd Fadzil who is also the Kor Suksis Unimas Commander, said the complex would provide a better training environment for Suksis and Palapes of Unimas.

“The details on this project will be known around June this year. It would be completed with the related equipment,” he said after presenting appointment letters to three honorary officers of Suksis Unimas at the campus.  The presen-tation was completed by State Police Commissioner Datuk Mohmad Salleh.

Mohmad said the proposed complex was a good initiative and believed it would benefit Suksis and Palapes of the university.

Earlier in his speech, Mohd Fadzil said: “I believe Unimas is the first university in Malaysia to get the Suksis honorary officers through the open interview. The open to all approach would help us get suitable candidates.”

Mohmad praised Unimas’ initiative in using the open interview system to appoint honorary officers.

He said the appointment of the honorary officers would enhance cooperation between the university and the Police Department.

Mohmad advised Suksis Unimas to carry out its training with full commitment.

“Undergraduates who participate as Suksis could have brighter career prospects. This is because in Suksis, we emphasise discipline and high discipline is one of the criteria favoured by many employers.

“Furthermore, Suksis has the added advantage in that should they want to join the Police Department after graduation, they already have the basic and relevant knowledge and skill,” he added.
