Labourer loses gold and cash in break-in

KUCHING: A labourer lost gold jewellery and cash worth several thousand ringgit when his vacant house was broken into by thieves.The 44-year-old discovered the theft on Thursday, when he returned to find his house near the Batu Kawah old bazaar in a mess, with various items strewn across the floor.

Among the items missing included RM3,000 worth of jewellery, several hundred ringgit in cash, a DVD player and important family documents.

The thieves are believed to have made their way in after forcing open the front door.

Prior to the discovery of the break-in, the house had been vacant as the labourer had been employed in Lundu and had brought his family along with him.

He lodged a police report of the incident later the same day.

In an unrelated incident, a college student lost her handphone to an unknown man who initially asked her for a sexual favour.

The incident happened around noon on Thursday, when the 18-year-old was approached by the man while she was drying some clothes outside her rented house in Bandar Baru Semariang.

The student became frightened when the man suddenly asked her for a sexual favour, and immediately ran and locked herself in one of the rooms in the house.

She exited the room after several minutes but found that her handphone, which was in her bedroom, was missing.

Suspecting the unknown man had entered the house and committed the theft, the student headed to the police station and lodged a report.
