PETALING JAYA: Perusahaan Otomobil Sdn Bhd (Perodua) aims to sell 176,000 units of its cars by year end, its managing director Aminar Rashid Salleh said yesterday. He said this was based on the momentum of the first quarter where sales jumped 24.5 per cent to 47,800 units from 38,400 units in the previous corresponding quarter.

The traditionally strong demand in the second quarter would also aid in achieving the target.

“If the opportunity arises, we hope to sell more than this target,” he told reporters at the briefing on his 100 days in office, here.

He added that Perodua would be happy to maintain its market share of 31.1 per cent in tandem with the forecasted total industry volume (TIV) of 550,000 announced by the Malaysian Automotive Association recently.

On the production side, Perodua produced 49,725 units, up 31.3 per cent from the 37,867 units in the first quarter last year, said Aminar Rashid.

He also said in March this year, Perodua’s monthly sales hit an all time high of 18,500 units compared with the previous high of 17,050 units in July 2008.

Perodua also serviced 148,000 vehicles in March. — Bernama
