In the treble set, Mew Choo took advantage of the lethargic Zang Beiwen and knocked her out 20-22, 21-9, 21-14.

“Though leading in the fist game I made some mistakes because the shuttle was fast, I lost the game. But in the second set, she (Zang) looked tired and I continued scoring points, I was more focused,” she told Bernama yesterday.

Her quarter-final match today will be either against India’s Saina Nehwal or compatriot Lydia Wong Pex Xian, both players taking the court later yesterday.

In the women’s doubles played earlier yesterday, Goh Liu Ying partnered Lim Yin Boo to beat Bangladeshi pair Alina Sultana-Aktar Shapla 21-11, 21-13 while Vivian Hoo Kah Mun and Woon Khe Wei wiped out Nepal’s Pooja Shrestha and Sujana Shrestha 21-3, 21-2.

Two of Malaysia’s men’s doubles teams also advanced to the next round after Mak Hee Chun and Tan Wee Kiong defeated Indonesians duo Bona Septano and Rian Sukmawan 21-14, 21-18 while Hoon Thien How and Ong Soon Hock outplayed Vietnam’s Duong Bao Duc and Pham Cao Hieu 21-11, 21-13. — Bernama
