KUALA LUMPUR: World number one Datuk Nicol David launched the hunt for her third title of the season by thrashing unseeded Jaclyn Hawkes of New Zealand at the Cayman Island Open Squash Championship at Grand Cayman Wednesday.
Nicol is gunning for top honours again after winning the inaugural competition last year.
The 26-year-old Penangite took only 24 minutes to beat her opponent 11- 3, 11-5 and 11-3 to advance into the last eight.
“I felt great on the glass court to win my first-round match against Jaclyn Hawkes,” Nicol said on Facebook yesterday.
Her quarter-final opponent is Camille Serme of France, who defeated homester Marlene West also in straight sets 14-12, 11-4 and 11-5 in 26 minutes. — Bernama
