3,400kg of cooking oil seized from boat

TAWAU: The Marine Operation Force (MOF) here yesterday seized 3,400kg of cooking oil worth RM9,350 from a small boat at the shore of Ice Box.

District MOF officer-in-chief DSP Husaini Zainal Abidin said the cooking oil was believed to be headed to a neighbouring country.

A marine patrol boat stopped the small boat without plate number at 12.20am during patrol.

“The boat with a 40 horsepower engine was heading towards Sg Nyamuk, Indonesia. We found 200 boxes with 17 packs of 1kg Cap Emas cooking oil in the boat.

“We also detained a 24-year-old boat skipper.

The case will be investigated under Section 135(1)(e) of the Customs Act,” he said at a press conference yesterday.

Since January this year, the marine police here have seized 4,964kg of cooking oil worth RM13,899.20, including yesterday’s seizure.
