KUCHING: Tabung Baitumal Sarawak (TBS) yesterday received RM1,516,438 from Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia (Bank Rakyat) as its business tithe for last year.
“This tithe is based on the operations of the nine branches of Bank Rakyat in Sarawak, the bank said in a brief statement released during the presentation ceremony held here.
The nine branches are Satok, Simpang Tiga (Kuching) Sibu, Miri, Bintulu, Sri Aman, Sarikei, Samarahan and Mukah.
The financial institution also said the total tithe (zakat) distributed throughout the country was RM35.350 million which was part of its RM1.550 billion nett profit recorded in 2009.
For Sarawak, the contribution this year was 4.4 per cent more than the bank’s 2008 business tithe of RM1,452,826.
During the occasion yesterday, a mock cheque was presented to the Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud by Bank Rakyat Commercial Banking general manager Yusuf Abdul Rahman in the presence of Second Planning and Resource Management Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan, Assistant Minister in Chief Minister’s Department Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman and senior officials from Bank Rakyat.
