SIBU: Three persons are being investigated by police after they were found in possession of drugs. Two of them (a woman and a young man) are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act which carries the mandatory death sentence if convicted; while the third person, a woman, is investigated under Section 39A1 which does not carry the death penalty.

Sibu police chief ACP Shafie Ismail confirmed the arrest, saying the trio were pulled in from two different cases.

In the first raid last Friday at 10.45am, the narcotics police party led by Inspector Lee Beng Hui stormed the house at Tun Abang Haji Openg Road. They found the drugs in their bedroom.

“Seized were 40 packets believed to be cannabis dried leaves that weigh more than 370g. Each of these packets could be worth RM200 in the black market.”

He said the police also seized another two packets of ketamine weighing about 7g. He identified the two suspects as women of 33 and 36 years old respectively.

The police chief said  investigation is ongoing.

He said confirmation of drug possession could only come after they had received the chemist’s report.

In the second case on Sunday, Shafie said they arrested a youth for drug possession under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act. He said the drugs were found on him when the police asked him to strip for a body check in their station.

“The CID men pull him in after he was arrested with four others for fighting in a pub.”

“The drugs fell out from his underwear as he was stripping.”

Seized were 50 packets suspected to be Ketamine and these could weigh up to 60g.

“We also seized 16 pills believed to be Eramine Five.”

The police chief said he was concerned about the second case as the suspect was only 20 years old.

“He already has a criminal record at such a young age.”

He said the two women were remanded for five days while the 20-year-old for seven days.

“All three tested positive for drug abuse.”
