1MALAYSIA CUISINE: A glimpse of Malaysian culture through culinary delights.

1MALAYSIA CUISINE: A glimpse of Malaysian culture through culinary delights.

“It will be a two-week long festival from June 11 to 25,” said business development manager Mary Choo yesterday.

Chef Barry Jakor and his team will whip up interesting dishes of the various states for  the buffet line.

This resembles the harmony and unity enjoyed in the country.

“We are living in a democratic country with various races and beliefs in  harmony.  Being  a  multi-cultural and cosmopolitan country, Malaysian food is derived from a number of  traditions and cultures. There is a profound multi-racial impact on Malaysian food. For instance, rice which is a staple diet for most Malaysians, is served in a variety of ways,” Choo said.

She said from the short grained Japanese rice and fragrant rice from Thailand to Basmati rice from India and local varieties of rice, there is a lot to choose from.

The choice stems from the cosmopolitan tastes of Malaysia and Malaysians.

“This food festival is designed to bring the exotic spices and taste of Malaysia as 1Malaysia,” Choo said, adding that among the signature dishes were Sarawak Laksa, Umai, Rendang and Ayam Percik.

Not forgetting lip-smacking sweets and desserts which are a must try.

The dishes are prepared in a variety of methods that reflect the many ways of life.

Part of the proceeds will go to charity with the beneficiary yet to be decided.

The Best Western staff will be dressed in cultural outfits to create an interesting ambience that emphasises unity among the many races in the country.

Costumes like those of the Orang Ulu, Bidayuh, Iban and Chinese will liven up the place and make the event a much talked about happening in the city.
