Factory worker claims trial to cheating company manager

SHAH ALAM: A machine attendant pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here yesterday to cheating a scrap metal company manager of RM7,000 three years ago.J Krishna Murti, 30, from Carey Island, near here, is alleged to have cheated K Thayalan of Sri Muda Metals Sdn Bhd by leading him to believe that the company had received a scrap metal tender from Golden Hope Plantation.

He is alleged to have asked Thayalan to pay RM7,000 for the approval letter to be issued when he knew that there was no such tender given by Golden Hope Plantation to the company.

He is alleged to have committed the offence at a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant in Teluk Panglima Garang at 6.10pm on Feb 6, 2007.

The offence under Section 420 of the Penal Code carries a maximum jail term of 10 years and whipping and fine upon conviction.

Judge Azhaniz Teh Azman Teh allowed Krishna bail of 4,000 with one surety and fixed May 17 for mention.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency (MACC) prosecuting officer Ng Siew Wee appeared for the prosecution while Krishna was not represented. — Bernama
