KUCHING: Gertaq Racing Team’s unexpected first place finish in Class B category at Sibu on Sunday was a huge relief for the team after they failed to achieve podium finish during the first round in Miri held in March.Rider Mohd Hafiz Abdul Jalil took full advantage of a lapse by Eddie Bryan of Faito Boon Kui team, who fell despite leading during the first few laps, before overtaking Abdul Haffiz Rashid, also from Faito to claim the victory.

“We had found the formula to win for this year and hopefully after several practice sessions we can further improve our skills for the coming Mukah round,” said Hafiz in a phone interview yesterday.

Hafiz described the perfect setting of his machine was among the reason for his absolute performance, and hope to be on par with established team such as Faito.

Meanwhile, Gertaq Racing Class A rider Azrie Ali Hassan who finished sixth in Class A described the Sibu track as the most challenging due to tight corners and chicane before the finishing line, arguably dubbed the most challenging in the Sarawak Cup Prix series.

“The tight corners proved to be a big challenge but all in all we were glad that both our machines could cope up with the design,” said Azrie.

He also mulls team plan to add another rider for class B, and is still in search for such rider.

“The opportunity for a win in class B is brighter and we will see it goes in the months to come,” he said.
