KUCHING: Exponents from Persatuan Taekwondo Gabungan Sarawak collected two gold medals, one silver and one bronze from the 4th Universal National Championship held at Cheras Badminton Stadium in Kuala Lumpur recently.Marena Tee contributed the first gold in the women’s light heavyweight category while Marlisa Tee took home the second gold, in the women’s heavyweight.
Phung Yean Song delivered the silver for PTGS in the men’s heavyweight category.
Mohd Shazerick Zulariffin grabbed the bronze in the men’s flyweight.
About 700 exponents from various states took part.
Coach Tan Check Joon was delighted with his charges, who were representing the state.
“I am impressed with their performance. They had improved a lot in terms of speed and sparring strategy after joining our intensive fighter class.
“Our exponents have proven themselves to be a formidable opponent and had defeated a few top fighters from other states,” Tan said.
