PUTRAJAYA: A special panel set up to monitor investigation into the fatal shooting of 15-year-old boy has the clout to exercise its responsibility, said Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein. He said this would ensure that the investigation would be transparent, fair, fast, done without fear and impartial in line with the objective of the formation of the panel.

“I would also like to remind all parties that the panel will not interfere with the investigation procedures but would only act to see and evaluate every aspect of the investigation,” he said in a statement here yesterday.

The eight-member panel was set up to monitor investigations into the fatal shooting of Aminulrasyid Amzah, 15, by the police in Section 11, Shah Alam at about 2am on April 26.

Hishammuddin urged Aminulrasyid’s family members to be patient with the investigation and accept the formation of the special panel.

He said as instructed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, the investigation would be fair and transparent and would not conceal any facts or information.

Hishammuddin said Aminulrasyid’s family and the public could scrutinise the background of panel members, who were held in high regard for their experience and expertise in human rights and policing.

“Their selection attested the government’s seriousness and sincerity in ensuring this matter will be resolved in a transparent manner, fairly and quickly,” he added.

Expressing his sympathy to the youth’s family, he urged the public to give the authority a chance to carry out the investigation which was being monitored by the panel. — Bernama
