Sugarcane seller to enter defence for Indonesian maid’s death

SHAH ALAM: The High Court here yesterday ordered a sugarcane seller to enter his defence on a charge with murdering Indonesian maid Muntik Bani.Judge Mohd Yazid Mustafa ordered A Murugan to enter his defence after ruling that the prosecution had succeeded in establishing a prima facie case against him.

He set June 2 to 4 for Murugan to make his defence.

Murugan, 36, is charged with murdering Muntik, 40, at No. 11, Jalan Datuk Yusof Shahbudin 6, Taman Sentosa, Klang, between Oct 18 and Oct 20 last year.

He has been charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

Muntik, who hailed from Surabaya, died at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang on Oct 26 last year.

Murugan is represented by lawyer V Rajehgopal, while deputy public prosecutors Idham Abd Ghani and Siti Fatimah Yahya prosecuted. — Bernama
