KOTA KINABALU: MASwings did not increase the airfare for its Labuan-KK-Labuan route as claimed by the Chinese Chamber of Commerce Labuan (CCCL).Malaysia Airlines corporate communication officer Alfreedo Chong Yu Sin said this when clarifying a statement made by CCCL that effective June 1, airfares between Labuan and KK would be higher by RM20 per way.

Chong said airfares were a regulated item and they could not increase the fares without approval from the Ministry of Transport (MOT).

“We are offering as low as RM194 for a one-way business class ticket.

“MASWings is offering lower air fares to enable passengers to enjoy our services,” he said.

He added that for the economy class, the one-way fare could be as low as RM129.

According to Chong, if a passenger makes an advance booking, he would be able to get the lowest fare.

Recently, CCCL chairman Chin Chee Kee said air passengers on the Labuan-KK-Labuan route would have to cough out another RM20 per way effective June 1.

He said apart from the Business Class, fares had also been increased in other sectors and classes as well.

Chin said based on a per kilometre basis, the air fare between Labuan and KK was already considered exorbitant and unreasonable.

He said the Business Class one-way fare was RM308, and with the additional RM20, it would be RM328.

For a return fare, it would be a whopping RM656.

Compared to the fare to foreign destinations from KK, one could even purchase a lower fare to Kuala Lumpur, he said.
