Five antique chairs stolen

KUCHING: Five antique chairs belonging to an art skills centre at Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce here were reported stolen after thieves broke into its premises early yesterday.The chairs, along with two computers and a digital camera, were discovered missing from the premises when the centre’s operator arrived at 8am.

The thieves gained access into the main office, located on the first floor of a commercial shop lot, by forcing open the security grille and main door.

Total loss was estimated at RM10,000.

It is also learnt that another shop located close by was similarly targeted by thieves last Friday which resulted in the loss of local and foreign currency, as well as several digital cameras.

In an unrelated incident on Monday, a marketing executive was slightly hurt during a scuffle with a snatch thief, who eventually escaped with her laptop.

The 27-year-old woman was using her laptop at an eatery along Rock Road around 7pm when an unknown man walked up and grabbed it from the table.

She injured herself after falling to the ground while struggling with the man who escaped in a car parked nearby.

She lodged a police report immediately after the incident and estimated her loss at over RM2,000.
