“This organisation with more than 100,000 members comprises all races in the state. It is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) and apolitical. Our members are youths from all races and professions.

“Truly, it’s part and parcel of 1Malaysia. Unity in diversity, where youths all over the state join the association and work together,” Aidan said.

“We are going to make some amendments to the constitution for Saberkas to stay relevant with the times, and suit the need for human capital development. Saberkas acts as a catalyst of change for young people.

“Tentatively, we propose to amend the constitution later this year to empower more young people to be at the helm of the Saberkas stewardship.

“We plan to do so by October this year when 80 per cent of youths below 41 years old get to man Saberkas but the elder generation can’t be ignored because of their vast experience in leadership,” he said.

Another proposal is to simplify the organisation by restructuring such that the state now has 71 state assemblymen – meaning one state constituency, one Saberkas Daerah.

This would ease administration with more youths to undergo in the leadership training, he added.

Aidan said: “We want Saberkas to be part and parcel of the society. We want to contribute a little bit.

“This is our Asian value. Our children must be raised to benefit from the state’s economic growth to achieve a high income society.”

For example, SCORE was projected to generate 1.6 million skilled jobs to achieve a high income economy or per capita income a year from now, he said.

Aidan and his entourage paid a Gawai Dayak visit to Kapit Hospital to present 73 hampers and ang pow to patients yesterday.

The visitors included Saberkas state deputy secretary-general Datuk Paul Teo Choo Tee; assistant secretary-general Antonio Galis; political secretary to the chief minister, Watson Bangau who is also in the Saberkas social and welfare sub-committee; and treasurer David Wong Siew Chow.

They were welcomed by hospital director Dr Ngian Hie Ung, Dr Sangeeta, Matron Masitah Arshad, Sister Suraya Ikran, Sister Chun Lepong, Saberkas Kapit Daerah chairman David Chuo, Saberkas Kampung Baru chairman Zulaini Junaidi and members.
