Teenager dies in road crash

KOTA KINABALU: A teenage local boy was killed in a road accident at Jalan Kolam, Luyang here yesterday morning.

Acting city police chief Superintendent Rowell Marong when contacted yesterday, said the victim, identified as 18-year-old Mohd Radzy Mat Rashed, died of severe head injuries on the spot.

He said that the victim from Kampung Rugading, Telipok, was driving a Proton Wira Aeroback car with his friend Abd Zahein Matlin, 20, to the State capital before the 1.40am incident.

“The victim was believed to have lost control of the car before ramming into the back stairs leading to True Jesus Church in Likas,” said Rowell, adding that
Mohd Radzy’s body was sent to the Queen  Elizabeth Hospital for a post-mortem.

Abd Zahein, who also suffered injuries in the incident, was admitted to the hospital and was reported to be in a stable condition, Rowell said.

“We are still investigating into the cause of the accident,” he said.

Rowell believed that the driver might have been speeding.

Fire and Rescue Services Department personnel rushed to the scene to take the victims out of the badly damaged car.
