14 slot machines seized, six detained

LAHAD DATU: Fourteen slot machines were seized during a police operation at four business premises here yesterday noon.

Acting police chief Assistant Superintendent Bong Kwet Khiut said five locals and a Filipino aged between 29 and 38, were detained during the ‘Ops Judi’ operation to assist in police investigation.

Two of the business premises raided were at Fajar Centre and the other two at Airport Plaza.

The slot machines are worth RM28,000.

According to Bong, the illegal gambling has been in operation for about a month.

“We raided the premises after getting information from the public,” he said yesterday.

The cases will be investigated under Section 4 B (a) of the Open Gaming Houses Act 1953 which carries a fine up to RM20,000 or five years’ jail, or both, upon conviction.
