KUCHING: The Bisapug Association, which represents members of the community from the four villages of Simpok, Mundai, Sarig and Pesa, launched its logo at a dinner themed ‘Ata Bimadis’ on Saturday night.

Deputy Tourism Minister and Mambong MP Datuk Dr James Dawos Mamit officiated at the launch witnessed by about 1,000 members of the community.

According to association president Paul Kawin Pipo, the Bisapug community shared the same ancestral past, believed to be rooted in Bung Brungu, also known as their ancestral homes about 300 to 400 years

ago.

“Today the Bisapug community is residing in four villages and comprise  about 600 households and current population of approximately 6,500 people,” he said.

Despite coming from different villages, the community still considered themselves relatives, cousins and nieces or nephews to one another and hence the theme ‘Ata Bimadis’ is highlighted, Paul said.

“In line with the ‘Ata Bimadis’ concept we are extending invitation to all Bidayuhs kindred and leaders regardless of their origin or association which is reflective of the spirit of 1BIdayuh as mentioned by Dato Sri Michael Manyin (Infrastructure Development and Communications Minister) at the closing of Gawai dinner recently.”

Paul said the dinner provided opportune occasion and venue for the community to interact and enhance social bonding and the spirit of 1Bisapug.

The association was officially registered and approved by Registrar of Societies (ROS) in 2005 and the logo was approved by ROS on Feb 23 this year.

It aims to promote higher education, economic activities, sustainable development and healthy lifestyle towards a progressive and developed Bisapug community.

Meanwhile, Dawos congratulated the Bisapug community for the formation of the association as a registered entity and advised them to work closely with other Bidayuh clans and also other communities as well especially in the spirit of 1Bidayuh and generally in the spirit of 1Malaysia.
