BESUT: A prisons officer suffered burns to the face, hands and feet after a gas tank exploded in Kampung Baharu, Kuala Besut last night.
Abdul Halim Omar,57 was admitted to Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Hospital in Kubang Kerian and reported to be in stable condition.
His brother Ismail,70, said Halim who smelled leaking gas was approaching the kitchen at 9pm when the gas tank suddenly exploded.
“The fire caught him in the face and clothing,” Ismail told Bernama yesterday.
He said on hearing the explosion, Halim’s wife Rubiah Ismail rushed out of the bedroom to help put out the fire. Rubiah also sought help to send her husband to Besut district hospital.
The explosion destroyed the kitchen window, door, curtains and chairs. — Bernama
