PUTRAJAYA: Landskap Malaysia chairman Tun Jeanne Abdullah suggested that trees, besides flower plants, be planted in town areas to maintain a green environment.

She said trees absorbed carbon dioxide and gave out oxygen to naturally clean and cool the air.

“We have green technology, green building to reduce carbon emission, but trees are natural resources.

“Hence, the people should be made aware of the importance of planting trees,” she told reporters after visiting an exhibition site of the Malaysia Landskap rainforest at Floria Putrajaya here Saturday night.

Also present was former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, who is Landskap Malaysia adviser.

Jeanne said the exhibition was part of efforts to instill love for the environment among the public. — Bernama
