SEARCHING FOR CLUES: A forensic expert from Kuching combs the front seat of the suspected rapist’s car for clues.

The experts found the evidence after combing the car seized from the suspect yesterday morning.

The police said both clues were found on the front passenger seat, where the student could have been raped when the 30-year-old bachelor took her to the car park building at Wong Nai Siong Road.

The experts will send the collected items for DNA testing.

According to the police, the suspect and the victim had been contacting each other via Facebook, but might have known each other earlier as he was a friend of the girl’s ex-boyfriend.

After the two broke up, the jobless bachelor, 30, had kept in touch with the student via Facebook, and they had also gone out a few times.

Police identified the suspected rapist as an ex-convict who had been jailed for eight years for a drug offence.

Before the alleged rape on Wednesday, the man had gone to the girl’s college, asking her to follow him in his car as he had something to tell her.

The girl had initially refused, but the man forcefully took her in his car to the top floor of the car park building where he allegedly committed the offence.

After that, the man dropped off the girl there and left.

The girl took a chartered van to her Sibu Jaya home.

The suspected rapist was arrested on Friday evening in a restaurant at Mahsuri Road where he had taken his family out for dinner.

On Saturday he was remanded for six days for investigation.
