Bund to protect Tanjung Kembang beach under 10MP — Abg Johari

KABONG: The state government has plans to construct a bund along Tanjung Kembang beach to protect it from erosion under the Tenth Malaysia Plan (10MP), disclosed Housing and Urban Development Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg.

It will request for RM5 million from the federal government  for this purpose, he added, saying the bund would be part of the efforts to preserve the beach which has high tourism potential.

Speaking when officiating at the closing ceremony of Pesta Pantai Tanjung Kembang 2010, here yesterday, Abang Johari said  Tanjung Kembang beach could become a catalyst to the economic growth of Kabong which is rich in a variety of tourist products.

He noted that be it in agro-tourism, eco-tourism or culture-tourism, Kabong has many unique products  in store for visitors and hoped that   locals would embark on a more aggressive method of promoting their products.

He suggested that they utilise the Internet to market their products  following the expansion of the broadband service to the rural areas.

On another note, Abang Johari commended the local community for their strong bond of unity and harmony which truly reflected the 1Malaysia spirit.

“This shows that the 1 Malaysia spirit has already existed among Sarawakians. Our effort now is more on enhancing harmony among our diverse community,”  he said.

He later presented  prizes to participants of the various competitions such as tug of war, beach volleyball, swimming, fishing, duck-catching and climbing slippery pole.

Among those present were Assistant Housing and Urban Development Minister Abduk Wahab Aziz and Kabong SAO Nazari Bujang.
