The CCM had warned of a dubious ‘Death Benefit Assurance Scheme’ under a 1Malaysia Life Management Scheme (1MLMS) in a statement on July 28.

“If there are complaints or doubts about any cooperatives, you can check with us here because we have the register for cooperatives in Miri and Bintulu,” said CCM Miri-Bintulu Division assistant director Lily Fawziah Adnan at Wisma Persekutuan Phase Two near Miri Hospital in Lopeng yesterday.

The Borneo Post covered the launching of 1MLMS in Kg Kuala Baram here on July 2.

“For cooperatives not registered in the area of our jurisdiction, we can refer to other offices or our head office in Kuala Lumpur who will look into the case,” said Lily who declined to comment on the case involving 1MLMS since it involved a Kuala Lumpur cooperative that was not under her jurisdiction.

Consumers can also complain to the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism located at Yu Lan Plaza here.

“But cases involving cooperatives will still be referred to our office.

“Normally, the cooperative must seek approval from  its members, not just its board members, say in an AGM, when making important decisions like setting a budget or investing in a product,” she said.

The cooperative should also seek the consent and approval of CCM prior to launching of any products.

“The CCM will examine the products to ensure that they are proper and legal,” she added. The public may also visit CCM’s website at www.skm.gov.my for more information.
