He said the MCA was weak in publicity strategy, especially in using the new media to disseminate information, as the party was too dependent on the mainstream media.

“We are weak in publicity not because we are lazy. But because we are in power for so long that we do not know how to play the role of opposition anymore,” he said.

He added that lack of blogging and twitting among party members had made the opposition better equipped during the publicity war.

“Therefore, I urge party members to use the Internet and Twitter to inform the public about the truth,” Dr Chua said at the launch of the ‘Twitter Session with the MCA President’ at the party headquarters, here, yesterday.

He said not all information posted on the blogs and Twitter were true and hence, it was a challenge for the people to select which were true and false.

“No government can block information dissemination in the Internet, so the younger generation should not believe everything said in the blogs.”

MCA Youth chief Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong who was also present, said the Twitter networking planned by the movement was to disseminate information speedily and effectively to the voters and MCA Youth members.

He said this would enable MCA Youth to monitor information disseminated through the new media.

“Those using Twitter should make their message brief and ensure its accuracy,” he added.— Bernama
