This unique design, according to chairman of Unique Wood Holdings Dato James Tai, would help improve the locals’ understanding of timber species planted in the state. It would also serve as a legacy of sorts for future generations.

“We will label the different species of timber for the public to have a better grasp of the myriad of tropical timber species. A lot of people still do not really know there is a planted forest.

“This is particularly beneficial to those not in the timber industry,” he told The Borneo Post after the soft opening ceremony of Sibu Cultural Heritage Museum here.

He added that this approach was also good for foreigners who knew that the country was practising sustainable timber logging.

Tai said the project was estimated to cost about RM50,000. The bulk of the amount would go to the work itself.

Earlier, Minister of Environment and Public Health Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh pointed out that the 40 specimens of timber was representative of Sibu as a timber town.
