KUALA LUMPUR: The political scenario and changes in the country’s political landscape since the March 2008 general election demand the Barisan Nasional (BN) leadership at all levels to undertake significant changes and a transformation process that can be accepted by the people.MUHYIDDIN YAASIN

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said if the BN leadership failed to undertake such changes, then the party would face problems in the next general election.

“If we don’t do these immediately then we will certainly face major problems as the next general election approaches, that can challenge the strength of (our) political power,” he said at the dinner organised by Malaysian Council of ex-Elected Representatives (Mubarak), here Sunday night.

The dinner, which was also attended by Muhyiddin’s wife, Puan Sri Norainee Abdul Rahman, was held in conjunction with the Mubarak general assembly on Sunday.

“The situation today differed in terms of managing the party and government because the people made evaluations and questioned the policies and actions of the government,” Muhyiddin said.

He said if the major transformation desired by the people could be successfully implemented, then the BN would be able to retain the support of the people in future.

He said the political challenges which emerged after the political tsunami that occurred in the last general election were most significant, especially with the disclosure of the latest information within or outside the country, especially among the young generation.  — Bernama
