He said such youths were necessary to push Sarawak to become a fully industrialised state.

“In the current global competitive world, we need a pool of youths who can undergo any kind of endurance tests.

“It is because only such highly resilient spirits would be able to push Sarawak into a truly modern Sarawak by year 2020, thus generating a high income economy,” he said at the Che Sing Khor Moral Uplifting Society Miri’s diner on Wednesday.

Dr Chan said the private sector must play its role in developing various education programmes for human capacity building to complement the government’s efforts.

The people, he said, should also stay united and continue to support the 1Malaysia concept.

“Unity among the multiracial communities is the core factor of the strength of Sarawak.

“Stay united and together we will face all the competition and challenges,” he said.

On the society, he said, it has successfully translated the 1Malaysia concept into concrete action through its various social welfare programmes for the nation’s well-being.

He called on the society to keep promoting better understanding among the different ethnic groups.
