LABUAN: Five pump boats were detained in the Kiamsam waters here, this morning, but all the boatmen managed to escape detention.

The boats were detained by the Labuan Fisheries Department for not having a fishing licence issued by the department.
Labuan Fisheries director Zainuddin Abd Wahab told Bernama, fishing using unregistered boats was categorised as an illegal activity.
Various species of fish such as mackeral, cencaru and parang or wolf herring found in the boats were also seized.
“Most of the illegal fishing are carried out by foreigners early in the morning and the fish are sold directly to members of the public,” said Zainuddin. – Bernama
