KUALA LUMPUR: This year’s Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination will begin on Nov 23 and not on Nov 22 following Nov 22 being a public holiday in Johor.

The Education Ministry in a statement here yesterday said the Malaysian Examinations Board (MEB) had notified all state education departments of the change through a circular dated May 7.

The change in date was also posted on the MEB’s website in the first week of June while the new examination schedule was forwarded to all state education departments for circulation to secondary schools on July 23, it said.

The ministry added that the change was necessitated following the Johor government gazetting Nov 22 as a public holiday in conjunction with the birthday celebration of the Johor sultan.

As a result of the change, this year’s SPM examination would be held from Nov 23 to Dec 20, the ministry added. — Bernama
