MIRI: The people’s support for the Barisan Nasional government is vital for the socio-economic development of the state, Pujut assemblyman Andy Chia Chu Fatt told the people in his constituency.

Their continued support would bring lots of programmes and activities that could improve their standard of living.

“The government and leaders of Barisan Nasional (BN) advocate ‘walk-the-talk’ concept unlike the opposition that only sweet talk to fish for votes,” he said. They also hurl accusations against the government, Chia added.

He was asked about allocations announced by Works Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansur on Monday.

Shaziman on his visit to Miri announced a RM120 million allocation to improve the traffic flow at Pujut 7 which includes upgrading the road into a dual carriageway, installing traffic lights and expanding the bridge.

The minister also approved smaller grants for maintenance and repairing of roads under Pujut constituency. But Chia kept a tight lip when asked the amounts.

He said all these would not have been possible if the people had strayed from the government and sided with the opposition.

Their cooperation and support were vital for the development and progress of the state.

Meanwhile, he welcomed and urged more working visits of federal ministers to the state.

“This will make them understand and appreciate the needs and problems faced by the people here. It is in line with the 1Malaysia concept,” he said.

Earlier, Chia attended a Hari Raya gathering of Sarawak Energy Berhad in a hotel here.
