KUALA LUMPUR: The government confirmed that MMC Corporation Bhd has made a bid for the UEM Group Bhd and a decision will be made in due course, Khazanah Nasional Bhd’s managing director Tan Sri Azman Mokhtar said yesterday.

“We understand that the government has received it and we have had some discussions at the Khazanah board last week.I think in due course we will make an announcement,” Azman said when asked on the bid by MMC.

Khazanah, as custodian of the country’s assets, will take the bid seriously as PLUS Expressways Bhd, which is a unit of UEM, is a strategic asset of the nation, he said.

PLUS is the world’s fifth largest toll operator, in which Khazanah, the government’s investment arm, has a controlling stake.

Besides PLUS, UEM Group’s other listed entities are Faber Group Bhd, UEM Land Holdings Bhd and Time Engineering Bhd.

“PLUS is a strategic asset of the country and belongs to all Malaysians as it is a critical infrastructure provider for the country.
