More than 470,000 candidates sit for PMR examination

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 479,675 candidates are sitting for the Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) examination nationwide from yesterday till Oct 12.

According to the Malaysian Examinations Syndicate, of the total, 446,896 were from fully-aided schools, 5,069 from Mara junior science colleges and Army apprentice schools, 11,370 from state administered religious schools, 14,756 from private schools, 334 individual private students and 1,250 from Islamic religious schools.

In the city alone, a total of 24,382 candidates began sitting for the examination at 178 examination centres.

Kuala Lumpur Education Department director Mohd Adenan Deraman said of the total, 21,726 candidates were from public schools, while the rest were from private schools.

“A candidate, who is suffering from leukemia, had to sit for the examination at a hospital and use the service of a reader and a writer to answer the questions,” he told Bernama here yesterday. — Bernama
