THE principal of a secondary school in Papar said the students were give one month  to get their hair cut to ensure they look neat in school before action was taken.

He said the school had enforced its regulation on haircut, advising the students to have it done within one month but some of them failed to abide by the regulation.

“We want the students to have a neat appearance in school, especially during the exam,” he said when commenting on the call by the father of a student for the school management to explain their action on Oct 4 in cutting some students’ hair.

The principal said the haircut at the school hall served to remind the students on the need to cooperate and heed the school’s regulation.

According to him, the regulation has been agreed upon by the Parent-Teacher Association of the school and it should not be an issue.

Those who failed to follow the school regulation should be given a punishment, he said,

The father concerned was upset over the school’s decision to take disciplinary action against the students at a time when they were preparing for the Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) examination.

“Is there any directive from the Education Department to force the PMR candidates to have their hair cut short or almost bald before sitting for the exam?” he had asked.

“These students would sit for the PMR examination on Oct 5 and action taken by the school would definitely affect their morale,” he said.
