KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) deserves the seat at Batu Sapi in the upcoming parliamentary by-election, said Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Masidi Manjun.

He said Barisan Nasional was ready for any by-election, but was of the opinion that the seat should be given to PBS.

“It may not be a good time to talk about by election when people are grieving,” Masidi said, when asked to comment on the parliamentary by-election of the seat at Batu Sapi left vacant by the death of its MP Datuk Ir Edmund Chong Ket Wah.

“To me they (PBS) deserve it, it’s their seat.”

Masidi also expressed his condolences to the family of the late Datuk Edmund Chong who was killed in an accident on Saturday.

“My condolence goes to Datin Linda Tsen and family for losing their husband and father.”

Although Masidi admitted that he was not close with Edmund, he was saddened by the news of his death.

“I can only say, Edmund has many good friends not only in his own party but outside BN (Barisan Nasional).”

He also commended Edmund’s leadership as a member of parliament.
