KUCHING: Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department Tan Joo Phoi on Sunday night called on Batu Kawa constituents to continue supporting Barisan Nasional.

Noting that there were now many rumours to discredit BN since the next state election was just around the corner, he said the constituents there should not let these rumours influence their decision to vote for the BN.

He also responded to one of the rumours that the government was not helping the lower income people by stressing that the government had helped through policies such as low-cost housing.

“The people should understand that the government has always worked on bringing improvements to their lives. That is why it is important for them to choose those (politicians) who can really work for them,” he said.

Tan, who is also Batu Kawah assemblyman, mentioned this when officiating at the Kuching Batu Kawah Road Community Association’s 23rd anniversary dinner here on Sunday.

He also called on the community leaders to  play their part to work with the government and help the unfortunate members of society.

“The community leaders should work together and closely with us to sort out the people’s problems.

“We are trying to settle the existing problems and improve the facilities to provide a better environment for the people to live in.”

The association chairman Choo Chong Teck said the association was planning to hold more charity activities to help the poor. He urged for support from the fortunate ones to take care of the less fortunate.

“As the community association here, we are trying to help the people by bringing the issues to the community leaders. With Tan’s help, a lot has improved,” said Choo.

Choo said besides joining common activities like health check, exercise and charity fund raising of the association, he encouraged the members to participate actively in other charitable activities.
