SIBU: Police here foiled a suicide attempt with the arrest of an odd-job man at 3.15pm yesterday at a shophouse in Amoi Road.

The 30-something man appeared outside a window on the first floor holding on to some electric cables.

Passers-by urged him to get in from the ledge. Fearing that the man might jump, they called the police at 3.15pm.

Police personnel first tried persuading the man to come down from his perch but after 10 minutes of cajoling and when the man did not seem to be listening, the police quickly and stealthily went inside the building and grabbed him in the nick of time.

The suspect, a divorcee, told the police  he wanted to end his life because he was frustrated with the conflict with his ex-wife.

Initial investigation showed the suspect had previous house break-in records.
