KUCHING: An assistant manager of a movie theatre was assaulted and robbed of RM25,000 while on his way to the bank to deposit  cash on Monday night.

The 34-year-old was driving towards Tabuan Laru around 7.40pm when two men on a motorcycle overtook him and forced his car to the side of the road.

As the assistant manager stepped out of the vehicle to confront the men, the pillion rider rushed towards him, kicked the car door against his body and punched him in the right eye.

The rider, meanwhile, ran to the front passenger door and grabbed a bag containing cash.

The victim, who suffered bruises on his face, later lodged a report at the Simpang Tiga police station, accompanied by his manager.

According to the latter, the stolen cash was the theatre’s collection for Sunday and was supposed to have been deposited at the bank via a cash deposit machine.

He revealed a similar deposit of more than RM100,000 made earlier the same day using the same method and at the same bank. He also disclosed the robbers wore full-face helmets and had concealed the bike’s licence plates.

Police are investigating.
