KOTA KINABALU: Police have not ruled out jealousy as a motive in the murder of a 39-year-old nurse whose body was found semi-naked inside a drain at Lorong Ujana in Taman Kingfisher here on Tuesday.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Noor Rashid Ibrahim said police arrived at the conclusion after they arrested a 41-year-old man, believed to be the victim’s fiance.

Noor Rashid said police would also look into other possibilities as they awaited a post-mortem report on the death of Annie John Dismas, and believed the arrest of the man could shed some light on the case.

However, Noor Rashid declined to say if the man was the main suspect.

Meanwhile, city police chief ACP Ahmad Sofi Zakaria yesterday confirmed police had arrested a man to facilitate in their investigation.

“Police have detained a man yesterday afternoon (Tuesday) which police believed could help in our investigation. Initial investigation showed that the victim was hit by a hard object on her head,” he said, adding that police would carry out a thorough investigation into the case.

Sofi also said the body was identified as Annie after family members identified her.

Meanwhile, lawyer Ram Singh who has been appointed to represent Annie’s fiance, confirmed that his client had been remanded for seven days to facilitate police in their investigation.

The remand was issued by court registrar Danny Buaya about 9.30am at the request of investigating officer ASP Yusof Othman.

The remand application was made under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code to facilitate police investigation into the murder of Annie John Dismas, 39, from Kudat.

The fiance, who was accompanied by his brothers, was represented by counsel Batholomew Jingulam and Rizwandean Bukhary Mohd Borhan.

Annie’s decomposing body was found on Tuesday morning after she was reported missing since Oct 9 when she failed to return to her brother’s house in Penampang.

A police report was lodged by her father at the Penampang police station, following which Annie’s Perodua Kancil car was found next to a budget hotel near the community hall on Oct 10.

It is learnt that the victim was in the state capital to attend a two-week course at the Open University in Lintas and to undergo practical training at Likas Hospital.
