Six killed as car rams into tree and bursts into flames


KAMPAR: Six people were killed, including two women, when the car they were travelling in skidded and rammed into a tree before bursting into flames at Km 30.1 Jalan Ipoh-Kuala Lumpur near here yesterday morning.

Kampar OCPD Supt Abdul Aziz Salleh said the dead were identified as car driver Lim Kar Wai, 20, Yap Heng Loong, 21, Wong Chee Keong, 23, Tang Wai Leong, 18 and a female passenger, Soo Poi Wan, 18.

The sixth victim in the 2am incident was a female passenger who succumbed to her injuries at the Kampar Hospital at 4.50am, he told reporters here. Police are still ascertaining her identity.

He said the five died on the spot, with some suffering up to 80 per cent bodily burns.

The six were travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Kampar when the car skidded into the opposite lane and rammed into a tree before bursting into flames.

Fire and rescue personnel were despatched to the scene to put out the fire and extricate the victims’s remains from the wreckage. — Bernama
