State-level Women’s Day on Dec 4

KUCHING: The state-level Women’s Day, themed ‘Sarawak Women Treading the Path of Post Independence’, will be held on Dec 4.

Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department, Datin Fatimah Abdullah, said yesterday that it would be the first time that Women’s Day was being held concurrently at all 31 parliamentary constituencies in the state.

“The grand opening would be at  Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK). All the 31 parliamentary constituencies will have their own celebration. We hope that all women in Sarawak can share the joy on that day,” she said.

She told a press conference here that the event was jointly organised by the Sarawak Women and Family Council (SWFC), government agencies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

The highlight of the opening would be the launching of a book and the presentation of awards to several women who had distinguished themselves in their work, she said.

“The book discusses women’s role in contributing to the development of the state in various perspectives, from leadership, economy to social development. It is a publication of the SWFC,” said Fatimah, who is also the SWFC chairlady.

She added that Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud was scheduled to officiate at the event.
