Govt officers should enhance delivery system — Federal secretary

KOTA KINABALU: Government officers in Sabah should think outwardly to enhance the delivery system and efficiency, said State Federal Secretary Datuk Mohammad Hatta Ab Aziz.

He added that heads of government departments and agencies also had to create a conducive environment and encourage healthy competition to spark creativity and innovation in their respective fields.

“This is not only limited to science and technology, but also in the aspects of management, services, design, products and so on,” he said at the state-level Creative and Innovative Group (KIK) Convention  for public sectors here yesterday.

He pointed out that conventional measurement of productivity could only allow incremental improvement, but with the combination of creativity and innovation into productivity, it would give a quantum leap of improvement.

“Our country cannot merely depend on capital to boost growth, it must be used effectively to increase productivity, stimulate innovation, enhance human resource expertise, strengthen branding as well as adhering to the international intellectual copyright in efforts to move towards building a high value economy.”

A total of 14 groups, comprising seven management and seven technical groups, took part in the KIK presentation on Oct 6.

KIK MyROS from the Sabah National Registration Department and KIK Bacillus from the Pathology Department of the Dutches of Kent Hospital, Sandakan, were selected as the winners of the management and technical categories respectively.

The winning teams will represent Sabah in the national-level KIK convention from Oct 25-27 in Putrajaya.

Meanwhile, Sabah Public Services Department director Datuk Haji Nordin Siman said  the convention aimed to promote efforts in enhancing quality and productivity via direct involvement from operational officers.

He said the convention was a forum for government officers to be creative and innovative in their daily duties as well as increase their productivity at work towards becoming a high income country.

“It is my hope that the quality projects presented can be implemented in public agencies in Sabah.”
