KOTA KINABALU: Deputy Dewan Negara Speaker Senator Datuk Armani Mahiruddin said the national budget will boost economic development in the country.

“The allocation of RM121 billion for the people proved that the government is concerned with the people’s needs and it will always carry out changes for the unity and harmony of people in the country,” she said.

Armani, who is also Wanita Umno chief, expressed her appreciation on the concerns of the federal government in not forgetting the needs of the people in Sabah.

She said development projects in the aquaculture sector, namely large-scale integrated aquaculture, would be built at various locations throughout Malaysia, including Pitas, the Telaga River and Padas River in Sabah.

Prime Minster Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had announced RM252 million for the development which would give job opportunities to local residents.

Armani added that the announcement of the development of an integrated eco-resort at Nexus Karambunai as the first in the world would benefit the people in Sabah.

“The implementation of such project is part of the government’s efforts to enhance the harmony of the people in terms of providing more job opportunities,” she said.

She urged the people to get ready to face the challenges of the new economic development, particularly in terms of skills and knowledge.
