Skipper could be charged — CP

BINTULU: The skipper of the express boat that sank in Sungai Kakus on Monday might be charged in court if the accident was due to his negligence, said state Police Commissioner (CP) Datuk Mohmad Salleh yesterday.

When speaking to the media while rescuers were working around the site of the accident at Kelebu timber camp, Mohmad said the police would record the skipper’s statement before deciding further the type of action to take.

“Currently the skipper is under remand to help with the investigation. We will not act until the investigation has been completed,” he said.

Mohmad who also spearheaded the second day of operation stated that the driver was detained on Monday night.

He also advised family members of the missing passengers to lodge their reports to help the police gather useful information.

In addition, he also asked for the removal of the express boat from the give to facilitate search and rescue work.
