Farewell to an old school

THE school bell at Chung Hwa Primary School in Limbang town rang for the last time at 11.15am on Sept 27.

FINAL RING: Management board chairman Lim Chwee Cheng ringing the bell to mark closure of the old school which has been existence from 1959 to 2010.

Classes at the new school, not far from the old airport, started the next day.

Management board chairman Lim Chwee Cheng led the members in ringing the bell to close (and start) a new academic chapter for the 800 students as well as the teaching staff.

Chung Hwa Primary School has produced many outstanding students over the years.

A Primary Six student, Liaw Xiao Xuan,12, said she was happy to have the opportunity to step into the new school before leaving to continue her studies at a secondary school in Limbang.

The old school at the foot of Bukit Mas in Limbang town, has served over two generations of the Chinese communities in the Division.
