Trainee teachers and lecturers on study tour

KOTA KINABALU: More than 21 preschool trainee teachers and two lecturers from the Institute of Teacher Education  (IPG) Keningau Campus embarked on a study tour of Sekolah Kebangsaan (C) Anglo Chinese preschool recently.

The one-day visit aimed to provide exposure to future preschool teachers from IPG Keningau on teaching and learning techniques in preschool, as well as to gain classroom management experience through various activities.

In her speech, school principal Ong Kooi Huong thanked the IPG Keningau for choosing the school for its working visit.

“The effort is a good initiative in giving real classroom experience to trainee teachers. The preparation of trainee teachers is necessary to realize the country’s education policy.” Director of IPG Keningau Campus  Lim Sai Kiow @ Penny Lim said the Education Ministry was aiming to raise the number of preschoolers to 87 per cent by 2012.

She stressed that preschool education should not be taken lightly as it would give a big impact on children.

“Quality preschool education not only focuses on knowledge, but also stresses on overall individual development such as confidence, social skills and creativity.” Lim added that  190 of the 353 trainee teachers of preschool education would be placed in national type Chinese schools nationwide next year.

She also thanked the school, saying that the preschool was a benchmark for all the national Chinese preschool in Sabah.
