SIBU: The Barisan Nasional (BN) government’s success in bringing systematic development to the people proves its caring attitude.

Second Finance Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh said this could be seen from the financial allocations and completed projects which the government had implemented to benefit all strata of society.

“The basic facilities and development projects for the people are a clear reflection of the government’s care for the people, though there are issues which are yet to be overcome and projects yet to be implemented,” he told reporters after officiating at the closing ceremony of a BN seminar for village development and security committees (JKKKs) in Bawang Assan constituency, held at YMCA resort camp here yesterday.

“Bawang Assan constituency encompasses voters of Sibu Town, Chinese in rural areas and Ibans in longhouses. 70 per cent of voters are Chinese and 30 per cent are Bumiputeras.

“As a wakil rakyat, I always endeavour to serve the people to the best of my ability,” he said.

The Bawang Assan constituency comprises Batang Rajang, Selalo, Tanjung Kunyit, Ma’aw, Sungai Bidut, Engkilo, Ensurai, Sungai Sadit, Bukit Lan and Lebaan.

According to him, the three biggest challenges he faced as their wakil rakyat were to foster closer rapport among the people, upgrading of education and provision of basic facilities.

“There are still many areas in Bawang Assan yet to be linked due to geographical factor. Thus, my challenging task is to foster  closer link among the people so that they will be able to connect with one another,” he said.

On  another  development, Wong, who is also Environment and Public Health Minister, said he would always give his best to upgrade the standard of education among  the children in rural areas as well providing infrastructure like electricity and clean water supply.

About 250 community leaders, councillors, longhouse  chiefs and JKKK members participated  in  the seminar organised by Sarawak United People’s Party Sibu Bumiputera Unit. Also present was organising chairman Andrew Shilling Banggit, who is also a political secretary to the Chief Minister.
