KOTA KINABALU: Three friends, including twins, were attacked by a group of eight men at an entertainment outlet in Penampang early yesterday.

In the incident that occurred about 2am, the elder of the twins suffered serious head and face injuries while the younger brother and another man aged 30 suffered minor injuries.

According to brothers’ 30-year-old friend, the eight men, mostly in their 20s, were armed with bottles, wood and iron rods during the attack that happened outside the entertainment outlet.

“Due to the attack, the elder brother had both eyes badly bruised besides suffering cuts on his head which caused profuse bleeding. He is still being treated at the Sabah Medical Centre (SMC),” he said, adding that he and the younger brother only sustained minor injuries.

The victim, who declined to be named, said the group had at first attacked the elder brother, in his 30s, while they were having a drink at the outlet.

He said prior to the incident, the assailants were sitting not far from them.

“As they started attacking the elder brother, the younger brother and I tried to help him. However we were overpowered by them,” said the victim who works as a company supervisor.

The victim said he was very disappointed as nobody, including the bouncer of the entertainment outlet, made any effort to stop the fight.

“I was very shocked and disappointed as no one in the entertainment outlet including the bouncer took any action to stop the fight. They just looked at the eight men beating us until they fled the scene,” he said.

He said the bouncer should have taken immediate action upon seeing the incident.

He also said that they did not know who were the eight men and why they attacked the elder brother.

“We were just having fun there when one of the members of the group attacked the elder brother before the other members joined in the attack, ” he added.

He said they had lodged a police report at the Penampang police station about 9am.

The police in Penampang and the city said they had not received any report about the alleged incident.
